Florida Concealed Carry Class

Florida Concealed Carry Class

When you’re choosing a concealed carry instructor, you’re choosing someone who can provide you with the skills to save your life or the life of a loved one.

My name is Kevin Creighton, and I run Quietly Armed. I am a full-time professional firearms writer for the National Rifle Association, and I teach firearms training in the Naples area. I am not your typical “fly by night” firearms instructor who just gets the minimum amount to training to teach concealed carry. Instead, I put in hours and hours of time and energy into my classes in order to make sure you receive the best possible instruction. Here’s just a few of things that set my classes apart from the others:

Concealed carryThe state of Florida requires instructor to have just 24 hours of training before they can teach a concealed carry class.
I have over 1,00 hours of firearms instruction.

State law says that if you can pull the trigger of a gun and make the gun go “bang!,” you have enough training to defend your life.
I teach you how to place your shots on-target when literally everything depends on your marksmanship.

Other instructors talk about their military or law enforcement experience.
That’s great, but how is that relevant to you in your daily life?

I’m just like you. I enjoy the relaxed lifestyle we have here in Naples, and I want you and your loved ones to keep enjoying your lives and to keep you safe from those who would do us harm.

  • Methods of Concealed Carry
  • Florida Firearms Law
  • Personal Safety Tips Choosing A Defensive Firearm
  • Basic Pistol Marksmanship

Class is limited to 12 students maximum, so you’ll have as much of my attention as possible.

Students will qualify for not only their Florida concealed carry permit, but have a chance to practice other tests and drills as well.

The Cadre Session One Encore: The Concealed Carry Draw

Introducing The Cadre Sessions™

Each class in The Cadre Sessions is focused on one essential skill to help make you a better armed citizen. The classes are inexpensive and will concentrate on improving and honing one essential technique. After class, you’ll receive a drill that you can use to further hone your skills at your next range session.

These classes are designed to maximize your training time and resources and put you on a path to lifetime enjoyment of the shooting sports and safely enjoy the armed lifestyle.

The Cadre Session 1: The Concealed Carry Draw

  • Prerequisites: A valid concealed carry license
  • Gear Needed: See below
  • Class Date: Sunday, October 13, 1pm

This is an encore session to accommodate increased demand.

Deploying your defensive firearm in a timely manner is an essential part of the concealed carry lifestyle. The latest and greatest hand-blaster and all the firepower in the world are useless if you can’t get your gun into the fight when you need it the most.

However, most shooting ranges don’t allow you to draw from a holster, and learning a smooth and efficient draw is a daunting task if you’re doing it all by yourself. On top of all of this, holster manufacturers sell their holsters on the basis of comfort, not speed or ease of use. A comfortable holster is great, but a comfortable holster that gets in the way of you getting your gun in the fight is a dangerous thing to carry on your waist.

This class is designed to improve your draw from concealment, no matter if you’re an experienced firearms owner who carries a pistol on a daily basis or someone who is new to the concealed carry lifestyle. If you already carry on a regular basis, this class will sharpen your ability with your gear. If you don’t carry regularly, this class will show how to optimize your gear for maximum concealment and efficiency.

Topics Covered In This Class

  • Choosing A Good Holster And Gun Belt
  • The Efficient Concealed Carry Draw
  • Safe Re-holstering
  • Theory And Practice Of The Failure To Stop Drill
  • Test And Evaluation

This class is less than three hours long and requires fewer than 100 rounds of  ammo. Class size will be topped at just six people to allow plenty of opportunities for 1-1 instruction.

Gear Requirements:

  • A pistol (9mm/38 Special or larger caliber)
  • A spare magazine
  • A cover garment such as light jacket or oversized t-shirt
  • A holster suitable for concealed carry. Please do not bring a Blackhawk! Serpa holster or soft nylon holster such as an Uncle Mike’s or similar holster.
  • A sturdy gun belt

Intro To Defensive Shotgun
Oct 19 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Defensive shotgun

Intro To Defensive Shotgun

The defensive shotgun might be the most effective home defense firearm around, but it is not a “fire and forget” sort of thing. Unlocking the true potential of a defensive shotgun takes some knowledge and familiarity with your gun and the ammunition it uses. This four hour class will show you just how effective a tactical shotgun can be in a home defense situation and give you the skills you need for optimal use of your scattergun when literally everything is on the line.

Topics that this class will cover include:

  • History of the defensive shotgun
  • Differences between a hunting shotgun and a tactical shotgun
  • Shotguns vs rifles for home defense
  • Gear and accessory choices
  • Safe storage and deployment of the shotgun
  • Controlling recoil for fast follow-up shots
  • Reloading and ammo management

Gear Requirements:
Either a pump action or semi-automatic shotgun is suitable for this class. The tactical or defensive use of the shotgun is radically different from its use in bird hunting or clay pigeon sports. As such, it demands a different setup compared to a hunting gun.

Your shotgun should have a shortened or adjustable stock for maximum effectiveness. If your shotgun has a tube magazine, you should also have some method of storing additional ammo on the gun such as a butt sleeve or a receiver-mounted shotshell carrier. If you have a box magazine-fed shotgun, bring at least two magazines as well as some way to store a magazine on your beltline. Shotgun slings with ammo loops are not recommended for this class.

“FIREARMS” SUCH AS THE MOSSBERG SHOCKWAVE OR REMINGTON TAC-14 ORSHOTGUNS WITH A PISTOL GRIP AND NO STOCK ARE NOT ALLOWEDIN THIS CLASS

The effective range of those guns is far shorter than a shotgun with a stock, and as such, they are not compatible with what the techniques taught in this class. There will be no refunds issued if you show up to class with inappropriate firearms or ammunition.

The barrel length of your shotgun should be between 18 and 22 inches. Barrels longer than 22 inches will be cumbersome and awkward in our context. A shotgun with a barrel and a stock less than 18 inches long is a Class III firearm. If you legally possess a short barrel shotgun, feel free to use it in class.

Ammunition Requirements
You will need 100 rounds or more of birdshot. We prefer #4, #5 or #6 shot for training use. Really small shot, like #7 ½ or #8 spreads out really quickly. Larger shot, like #4, more closely mimics buckshot at the distances we will be using.

PLEASE DO NOT BRING ANY STEEL SHOT TO THIS CLASS

If you show up with shotshells full of steel shot, you won’t shoot. It’s as simple as that. We do this for safety reasons, and it’s just another one of the ways that a tactical shotgun differs from a hunting shotgun.

You will need approximately 20 rounds of buckshot. We prefer standard load eight or nine pellet 00 Buck. Magnum loads only increase the recoil and will beat you up to no advantage. Standard velocity 00 Buck will do just fine. If you want absolute maximum performance, I suggest Federal Premium 8 pellet 00 Buck with the FliteControl wad.

If you have any questions about gear or ammunition prior to the class, please email [email protected].

Steel Challenge

SCSA Steel Challenge

Sanctioned Approved Competition at Deep 50 Gun Range

We are sanctioned and approved to host all USPSA and Steel Challenge matches at our range. With each shooting discipline, the stages are set to each event and we follow the rulebook that is most current.  For more information on the specific rules, please follow the links.

1.) Steel Challenge Rules

Each one of these shooting disciplines has it’s own unique characteristic. If you are new to Competition Shooting, then we always recommend starting out with The Steel Challenge shooting competition.  You will stand in a box and engage 5 steel targets in what’s called a “String”. The time will stop on the last shot fired. You will do this 5 times per Stage, and your worst time will be eliminated.  There are a total of 6 stages at this match and it is a fun and addicting sport.

When you are ready for some fast action after SCSA Steel Challenge, then you should move on to USPSA.  You will be given instructions on how to start the stage HOWEVER, it is up to you to decide the best way to engage the targets for you or your equipment.  You are scored on your speed and accuracy .  This sport is a great blend of your imagination and your proficiency .  Your skills will greatly improve by at least 10 times versus a trainer or just practicing.

Please pay attention to these details.

Gates open at 8:45 am.

Registration opens at 9:00 and closes at 9:45 sharp.

Our Pledge and shooters meeting at 9:50

First shots fired at 10:00 am.

Intro To Defensive Carbine

Defensive carbine

Intro to Defensive Carbine

Once vilified as an “assault weapon,” the AR-15 is, in fact, a very effective tool for home defense. Light, easy to handle and with little appreciable recoil, it can be quickly adapted to fit each user in ways other rifles cannot.

This four hour class will cover the application of an AR-15 to the thorny problem of home defense. Students will learn how to optimize their defensive carbines for use inside the home, how to use a sling, as well as learn which accessories are “must haves” for a home defense carbine. This class is specifically designed for all the gun owners out there who bought an AR-15 in the past few years for home defense (a good idea) but then don’t know what the next step is. Well, this is it.

In addition to this, the class will cover the different types of close-quarters optics and how to keep your rifle in the action.

The live-fire portion will cover zeroing your gun, understanding and overcoming mechanical sight offset and speed and accuracy at common home defense distances.

  • History and operation of the AR-15
  • Advantages and disadvantages of the AR-15 for home defense
  • Choosing an optic for your rifle
  • Other accessory choices
  • Setup and sling use
  • Stance, grip and sight alignment
  • Zeroing your sighting system
  • Engaging targets at common self defense distances
  • Use of cover

Cadre Session Two

The Cadre Session Two: Automatic Accuracy

Introducing The Cadre Sessions™

Each session in The Cadre series is focused on one essential skill to help make you a better armed citizen.

The Cadre Session Two: Automatic Accuracy

  • Prerequisites: A valid concealed carry license
  • Gear Needed: See below
  • Class Date: Sunday, October 6th at 1pm

The purpose of this class is to dial in the fundamentals of trigger and grip and create the building blocks of automaticity.

What is automaticity?

“The quality or fact of being performed involuntarily or unconsciously, as a reflex, innate process, or ingrained habit.”

Think about the last time you almost had a traffic accident. Not an actual accident, but rather, one that you were able to avoid. How did you do that? Did you ever, at some point, think to yourself, “Oh my goodness, that car just ran a red light. I need to take my foot off the gas, move it to the left and apply it with all my might to the brake pedal!”

No, of course you didn’t, you just did it. You did it because when it comes to defensive driving, you have automaticity. This class is designed to help create those same automatic processes when it comes to your defensive pistol.

Topics Covered In This Class

  • Review of the Draw
  • Stance Doesn’t Matter… Until It Does
  • Grip Theory
  • Trigger Warning

This class is less than three hours long and requires fewer than 100 rounds of ammo. Class size will be topped at just six people to allow plenty of opportunities for 1-1 instruction.

Gear Requirements:

  • A pistol (9mm/38 Special or larger caliber)
  • A spare magazine
  • A cover garment such as light jacket or oversized t-shirt
  • A holster suitable for concealed carry. Please do not bring a Blackhawk! Serpa holster or soft nylon holster such as an Uncle Mike’s or similar holster.
